Popularity

Alexa ranks all sites on the internet using input from over 10 million toolbar users to assign a traffic ranking for the site versus all other sites. A site ranking of 30,000 means that the site is the 30,000 most trafficked/popular site on the internet.
(It is estimated that over 200 million sites are active on internet)

PCData™ owner NPD Intelect Market Tracking an accredited and
recognized worldwide website traffic and popularity tracking service
similar to Nielsen Media™ ranks web sites in all Commercial categories and ranks them according to overall internet traffic to and from a particular site.

They rank worldwide employment sites monthly by studying the log files of the
major internet backbone servers where al internet traffic flows through in order to get to destination websites. PCData™ sells this statistical information to major media
services and advertisers that have an annual subscription, so advertising rates can be set.

2000 in Summary:
Preferred Jobs was ranked over a sample 3 months period of October through December 2001 as, the 27th most trafficked employment site in October, the 33rd most trafficked site in November and 36th in December. Studies show that over 80,000 employment sites are operational placing Preferred Jobs in the top 3% and amongst all employment sites for traffic and popularity. This benefit is provided to our members at a value added low price.

Google

Job Site Ranking: Preferred Jobs - Top 50

Top 50 national:
American Preferred Jobs (national master site) ranks within the top 25 to 50 page ranking for all employment sites internationally.

Top 10 regionally:
American Preferred Jobs is a major job portal Hub consisting of 98 regional job sites. In page ranking for each regional demographic, a Preferred Jobs regional site on average will rank in the top 5-10, with many regional sites ranked number 1.

Description from Google site:
Google PageRank™ relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important."

Important, high-quality sites receive a higher PageRank, which Google remembers each time it conducts a search. Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don't match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page's content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it's a good match for your query.

Integrity

Google's complex, automated methods make human tampering with our results extremely difficult. And though we do run relevant ads above and next to our results, Google does not sell placement within the results themselves (i.e., no one can buy a higher PageRank). A Google search is an easy, honest and objective way to find high-quality websites with information relevant to your search.

2002 - 2003 Summary:

Throughout 2002, Preferred Jobs ranked in the top 25 to 50 rank of all job sites rankings using Google.com patented Google Page Ranking™ system.

A. What Direct Hit™ Does:

Direct Hit ranks web sites based on months of tracking the number of people clicking through to the sites from all the major portals such as Yahoo, MSN, AltaVista, Excite etc.... This data is performance and popularity based, the rankings are not based on TV advertisements, banner campaigns, faxes or direct e-mailing campaigns...No!   it is based on what the public thinks of the site. Sites are ranked by how many times visitors go to the site compared against other sites in the same business categories. Working together with major search engines, the Direct Hit system keeps track of the websites that people actually select from search results lists.

"By analyzing the activity of millions of previous Internet searchers, Direct Hit provides dramatically more relevant results for your search request."
quoted from Direct Hit site.

B. The Direct Hit™ Service:

"The Direct Hit service allows you to see what sites other people have found most popular for your search request. It works like this: you enter a search request into an existing search engine and get back a list of results. You can then click on the "Direct Hit" button to see what other people have found popular and relevant to your search request. With millions of people searching the Internet each day, the Direct Hit system quickly learns which sites are relevant and which are not." quoted from the Direct Hit site.
